Starting point

Octagon Music Hub didn’t have a website it fully owned or controlled and information was spread across council infrastructure, legacy partner websites and third-party domains, making it difficult for schools, families, partners and funders to understand what the Hub did or find accurate information in one place.

Having previously worked with the project lead at Evolve Music, I was brought in to take the technical direction of the new site. I planned, designed and built an independent WordPress website around Gutenberg, bringing the Hub’s audiences, programmes, events, resources and funded activity together under one domain.

What I built

I helped plan the new structure, designed the site and built everything in WordPress using Gutenberg.

The main aim was to give Octagon one proper home for explaining what they do, sharing opportunities, events and resources, and speaking to the different groups they work with across Dorset and Somerset.

Just as importantly, the site belongs to them and the team can update it themselves without relying on council systems or old third-party arrangements.

Outcome

Octagon Music Hub now has one clear place to send schools, families, young people, partners and funders. It’s also a much simpler setup technically, which should make it much easier for the team to manage and grow over time.
