About Anthony
I’m a freelance web developer based in Axminster, Devon. I specialise in building WordPress and Woocommerce websites and have an all-round skillset in website design, hosting and maintenance.
As someone who’s always been interested in how things work, I enjoy working closely with clients to figure out what they need and how to provide the best solution.
I have over 10 years of experience and have worked for development agencies in London, Bristol, Brighton and Exeter before starting my own business. This experience shaped the way I approach projects and taught me valuable lessons in how to work effectively.
Agency work
Most of the projects worked on are under an NDA so I can’t go into specifics of what I worked on but if you click the logos you can find out more about the sort of work they do.
Personal interests
When I’m not working I like to spend as much time as I can out in the countryside around me, finding new cafes and beach walks, visiting National Trusts and learning about history.
I always been an admirer of the weather, especially storms and the ocean. There’s something incredibly compelling about thunderstorms and powerful waves and I love being close to the beach in order to watch the weather (from a safe distance!).
Music is also a huge part of my life and I have a bachelors degree in Music and Sound Technology from Portsmouth University. I have a very musical family am grateful I get to do job that allows me to listen to music while I work.
What I love about WordPress
When I first starting using WordPress at University back in 2009, I never would have thought that I’d still be using it all these years later. This is all possible because it is availably freely and open source. WordPress is more than just a platform—it’s a global movement that powers over 800 million websites and continues to grow through the contributions of countless developers, designers, and enthusiasts. What truly captivates me about WordPress is the incredible community that surrounds it.
Being a part of this community means engaging with passionate people through a variety of channels. Whether it’s attending local meetups, where we exchange ideas and collaborate on new projects, or participating in WordCamps, which bring together people from all across the world.
I am currently involved in co-hosting and supporting the WordPress Exeter Meetup, with the goal to bring it back to the thriving community it once was. Similarly, I previously helped at the WordPress Edingburgh Meetup with some talks about development and I delivered 4 talks. The meetups are not only great for learning and sharing knowledge but also for building meaningful connections with fellow WordPress enthusiasts. From troubleshooting complex issues to celebrating the latest advancements, these interactions keep me connected and motivated.
What excites me is the opportunity to contribute to and be a part of something larger than myself. Whether it’s through contributing code, offering support, or simply engaging in discussions, being involved in the WordPress community provides a sense of belonging and purpose. It’s about working together to push the boundaries of what’s possible and to make better websites. The fact that it now powers 43% of the internet is absolutely down to those values.
Throughout my long career with WordPress, there have been numerous changes. The introduction of the block-based editor has transformed the way we build and design websites, opening up new possibilities for creativity and efficiency. Embracing Gutenberg has been a journey of continual learning and adaptation, and I love that being freelance allows me to keep learning something new every single day.
